hat a winning combination; beer and steam, two things very close to the Hawk's heart. This recently restored 1916 Sentinel steam wagon from the Bass Museum was voted best engine of the show by participating engine owners attending the Cromford (Derbyshire) Steam Rally. The wagon was restored by volunteers from the Bass Museum, who fitted a new handbuilt boiler along with a superheater, and also carried out the restoration of the vehicle deck. It has been reliveried in Winchester green, which was the period style of Bass Ratcliff from the early 1900s. Sadly the Hawk was unable to be there in person, otherwise he would have joined lain Napier (left) chief executive of Bass Brewers and Roy Bates of the Bass Museum's steam volunteers, in filling that handsome trophy with foaming amber liquid and toasting a bygone era.
