W. H. Schmalz has been appointed managing director of Uniroyal Ltd. in succession to J. C. Madigan who is returning to the United States to take up a post in the Consumer Industrial and Plastic Products Division, C. K. W. Lewis has been appointed director of marketing, UK.

Allen W. Simms, 34, has been appointed sales promotion and publicity manager of Scammell Lorries Ltd. Mr. Simms succeeds Peter F. Wood, recently transferred to Leyland Motors (Scotland, Ltd. Truck and Bus Division. E. J. Watson has been appointed Scammell company secretary/ chief accountant. Mr. Watson has been assistant secretary since 1961.

F. W. J. (Frank) Scott, managing director, operations. Shell-Met and BP Ltd. has retired after 44 years with the group. Mr. Scott joined the British Petroleum Co. Ltd. as a clerk in 1924 in the motor department.

Sidney Lewis, who was with the Nuffield Organization for 33 years, and was sales manager of Morris Commercial Cars Ltd. until joining the board of W. Watson (Liverpool) Ltd.. has retired.

L. W. Jukes, executive director of the Cam Gears Group since 1967, on reaching retirement age. has resigned from the board. Mr. Jukes is to continue to take part in Cam Gears activities as consultant.

Frank Woodman, assistant chief engineer of South Wales Transport Co Ltd., has retired. Mr Woodman joined the company in 1927 as a skilled fitter.

OBITUARY

We record with regret the death of W. G. (John) Hassan,

Mr. Hassan, a director of Sheppard Fabrications Ltd., who was 35, died as the result of a motoring accident last week. Mr. Hassan joined the Sheppard Group in 1960 after serving an engineering apprenticeship at Rolls-Royce Ltd. He played a major part in the growth of many of the group companies—in particular Sheppard Fabrications, of which he was assistant managing director. He was also a director of the group company together with all its subsidiaries.
