• Toyota is Jaunching the Hiace Compact, a shorter version of the Hiace panel van, to supersede the Liteace. The new van uses the Hiace's 2.4-litre, 76hp (57kW) diesel and costs 29,558 (ex-VAT)—around 2400 less than the 2.0-litre Liteace. The 2.8-tonne Hiace Compact has a 2.33m wheelbase260mm shorter than the standard model—a load volume of 5.89m",and a payload of 1,155kg.
• CM has repeated its laden fuel consumption test of the Fiat Fiorino I .7D: our first test (CM 9-15 June) returned a disappointing 36.1mpg (7.81it/100km). A properly run-in van (with 3,000 miles on the clock rather than a few hundred) returned /10.9inpg (6.9(it/100km)—a 13% improvement—at the slightly higher average speed of 64.4km/h.
