• Daimler-Benz and Volkswagen have struck a joint component deal in which D-B will supply body and driveline parts to VW for use in its long-await ed new LT van range.
Few details have been released, but this week D-B commercial vehicle division boss Bernd Gottschalk confirmed that his company will be supplying a special floorpan as well as suspension parts and possibly transmissions to Volkswagen.
VW will take the M-B floorpan and put on its own front and rear structures, powertrain and top body panels to create the new Li. Close co-operation on components will not, however, include the supply of Mercedes engines to VW.
Commercial Motor understands that the shared floorpan will also be used in the Mercedes T2 replacement expected to appear in 1997.
