With reference to the letter regarding the RAC and others complaining about the Association of Vehicle Recovery Operators frying to compete with clubs for police work, the clubs
only have themselves to blame. They have not played fair with us for years. They have had the power of advertising and running under club status for too long.
Our AVRO members are having to fight for the work in order to survive; many have collapsed.
The clubs should never have got involved in accident recovery as, by their own admission, car recovery does not pay They should allow us to charge a decent rate for the job. The police forces could have kept this work in-house and drawn the conmwersial .EF) or £14 instead of the middle man, that is, the clubs.
There is one major difference between the clubs and recovery operators: recovery operators know what they are talking about when it comes to accident recovery, and it is high time the clubs and the powers that be recognise the fact.
