MERGER OF LEADING WELSH OPERATORS?
A N amalgamation of two of the leadCling Monmouthshire valley bus companies, Ralph's Garages, Ltd., Abertillery, and the Griffin Motor Co., Ltd., Brynmawr, has, The Commercial Motor understands, been nearly completed. It is anticipated that all arrangements will have been concluded by the end of this month.
A similar arrangement was the subject of negotiations between the companies four years ago. Licence applications were made to the South Wales Traffic Commissioners, but eventually the proposals were abandoned.
Ralph's Garages, Ltd., owns 36 buses on the routes between Newport and the Eastern Valley, to Blaenavon and to Abergavenny, and between Newport and Brynmawr. Mr. S. Ralph is managing director, and Mr. E. Ralph general manager.
The Griffin Motor Co., Ltd., has a fleet of similar size, on much the same routes. That company, however, operates also from Newbridge to Blackwood and down the Clydach Valley to Crickhowell and Llangattock. Aid. T. J. Jones is the managing director of the Griffin company.

AST week, the Metropolitan Traffic
Commissioner refused to -allow over a dozen operators to run excursions and tours to Southend Illuminations
after. September 30 next year. The applicants sought to run the services so long as the illuminations were being held. An extra week's grace beyond September 30 was allowed this year.
Evidence of the late runeing of trains after the coach services had stopped this year was given on behalf of the operators. The railways contended that the trains ran with empty seats.
The subject has yet to be raised in the Eastern Ara.
