• Stirling council is replacing its entire winter maintenance Heet with 18 Whale Drop-In gritter rigs. The 6m3 demountable bodies are fitted to converted 17tonne GVW chassis, and should perform like conventional Whale Blazer gritters. Road speed-related spreading is handled via a spinner and belt powered by a rear-mounted auxiliary diesel engine and hydraulic drive. The belt assembly is fully retractable for ease of maintenance and the spinner assembly withdraws under a guard rail in the event of an accident.
