• A truck driver who faces two charges of causing death by dangerous driving following a crash in January has had his plea hearing adjourned until the new year (CM 23-29 October). Robert Lightfoot, of Silloth-basecl haulier Vivian Shandwick Lightfoot & Partners, was due to enter his plea at Carlisle Crown Court earlier this week. This followed a crash in January on the A596 at Thursby in which John McEuan and his daughter Nicola, from Workington, both died. Lightfoot faces Five other charges, including driving a goods vehicle with defective brakes, driving without due care and attention and tachograph offences. Three members of the Lightfoot family, Vivian Shandwick Lightfoot, Ann Elizabeth Lightfoot and Stephen Vivian Lightfoot, all from Silloth, face a number of maintenance and tachograph offences—Robert Lightfoot will now enter his plea on 12 January,
