Online freight exchange gets 'regular runs service running
HAULAGE EXCHANGE has launched a regular runs service aimed at operators looking for collaborative work in the contract logistics market.
The service marks a shift for the online freight exchange, which has focused on the 'spot market' for ad hoc loads and vehicle movements.
Now hauliers have a chance to post their regular runs in a timetable format, with the system spotting cargo matches like passengers on a train.
Lyall Cresswel I (pictured), managing director of parent
company Transport Exchange, tells CM This is going to create a timetable of journeys by hauliers. People really have very specific timings because of serious business needs, so with this timetable you can utilise all the available space of that run.
Meanwhile. rival Teleroute claims UK hauliers could be about to embrace fully the idea of online freight exchanges.
Adrian Samuel, UK and Ireland sales manager at Teleroute, says the concept has traditionally been more popular in Continental Europe. However, he believes the situation will change due to the weaker pound and the need for UK hauliers to find different ways to win business as a result of the economic downturn.
