Home construction faces contraction
STEVE TURNER, head of communications at the Home Builders Federation, says: "Home building is just one small part of the construction industry. However, the industry had been increasing production of new homes to achieve the Government's target of three million by 2020.
"Last year, it produced 200,000 new homes, but most experts believe there will be just 100,000 in 2009. So, at a time when we are meant to be ramping up output, we are, in fact, significantly contracting."
