• The first left-hand-drive Austin Rover Maestro vans will be sold in Europe in June. Only the two-litre direct-injection Perkins Prima-equipped, highspecification 700L will be exported to France, Italy, Belgium, Spain, Portugal and Holland. In some cases Maestro vans will be sold alongside Freight Rover Sherpa vans on dealers' forecourts.
Austin Rover decided to export Maestros after noticing that the car-derived-van mar ket in Europe rose by over 25% last year. The more favourable tax treatment for diesel fuel in Europe means that CDV sales are almost entirely of diesel-powered vehicles.
The turbocharged version of the Perkins Prima engine will make its first appearance in the Montego saloon this Autumn_ Austin Rover will only be offering the blown engine in the passenger cars, and says that the "van will remain naturallyaspirated throughout its life".
