reported to be teaming up to produce light CVs, in the face of falling domestic sales. The two companies will share parts and some Japan-only models will be phased out the Mazda Familia van will be dropped in favour of a Mazda-badged Nissan AD.
Both firms stress that the move will have no immediate or medium-term effect on their European product ranges.
This venture, which follows a similar agreement between Honda and Isuzu, may lead to cooperative investment and manufacture. Nissan describes it as part of a drive to rationalise, reduce costs and extend product life by "exploiting the synergy between the two firms".
Mazda denies any capital tieup with Nissan, but admits that a study of mutual supply of CVs is continuing.
