Colin McKay started as an owner-driver in 1980, when he bought a 1976 Mack F-type tractor unit.

By the early 90s, he had built up the business then known as McKay Freight to four trucks.
He says: "After school I went into garage management, but by the late 70s, I wanted to run my own haulage company, and managed to get some business through my established contacts."
In the mid-90s, the firm rebranded as Fast Forward International to reflect its status as a niche freight-forwarding specialist.
McKay is ably assisted by his wife of 28 years, Naomi who is company secretary as well as Lee Davison, commercial director, and Bill Hay, operations director.
The McKays daughter works with the company in a training and accounting role, but their two sons have pursued other career paths.
