I N a reserved decision, the West Midland Traffic Commissioners have granted a reshuffle of assisted-travel services by Berresfords Motors Ltd.
The company asked for a new express service for employees of William Broster and Co. Ltd. living in the Oakamoor and Cheadle districts and points en route to Broster's factories in Leek. Broster guaranteed £22 106. per five-day week and recovered fares from its employees to the estimated extent of 113 15s.
Berresfords had been providing this facility under contract arrangements for about two years. The company's second application was to add a short section of link route to an existing licence authorizing another assisted-travel service.
The Potteries Motor Traction Co Ltd. had objected to the express application and the Trent Motor Traction Co. Ltd. objected to three picking-up points asked for.
The Commissioners granted the applications with the exception of the three picking-up points to which Trent objected. They found that Broster needed a tailor-made service to maintain and expand its labour force, and that as Broster would be contributing at least 40 per cent of the cost, substiantial weight must be given to its support of the application.
