Engine: 14-litre diesel, 68hp1150Nm Transmission: front-wheel drive, 5spd manual GVW: 1,562kg Load volume: I.l ms The little Pug should, in theory, be a real contender in this class considering the company's history when it comes to smart hatchbacks and on initial contact it seems to fit the bill.
The 1.4-litre unit delivers useful urge across the rev range and like the passenger variant ifs good to drive, communicating well with the driver and cornering with zest, which makes it ideal for light urban work.
There's a touch of French style to the interior, complete with smart trim and a decent amount of standard equipment. In the rear it can accommodate 515kg, but unfortunately it doesn't cope particularly well when fully loaded.
The rear suspension feels heavily compressed, reducing the dynamism that accompanied the 206 when unladen, while on longer journeys it doesn't have the overall refinement of others in the class.
