Built on the same Thai production line, they share the same running gear, chassis and body sub-structure, including doors, roof and loadbox. but the bulk of their development including the impressive new 2.5-litre common-rail engine is by Mazda. The engine has the flattest torque curve in the sector, giving excellentflexibility and eliminating the need for a six-speed transmission.
The refined engine is adequately matched by extremely well sorted suspension that
manages to give good handling and impeccable ride comfort.
Mazda has a more limited UK range than Ford, with three basic versions, 4x2 and 4x4 single cabs, and a 4x4 double cab, but not the Freestyle extended cab with rear-hinged doors.
The double-cab comes with three trim levels, covering needs from fleet to lifestyle. Even the basic model comes with a reasonably high level of standard equipment.
