The middle of 2006, though, saw Volvo not only bring the FL into the 21st Century, but add a new middleweight range, the FE (see below), at the same time.
Look beyond the traditional Volvo diagonal grille bar and you may notice a certain familiarity about the new models.
They mark the first major flow of technology back from fellow group member Renault. Put in a slightly over-simplified manner, the FL is a Volvo-badged version of the latest Renault Midlum from 12t to 18t GVW.
All the Midlum's features, including the dash-mounted gearshift and the Deutz-based engine range, are included. One Volvo first is the CitiPro, an offthe-shelf 12-tanner with a standard box body and tail-lift.
