A NEW boxvan has been built by Marshall of Cambridge
(Engineering) Ltd. on an Austin 2-ton 10 ft. 9 in-wheelbase chassis/cab for W. G. Pye and Co. Ltd. The body is based on all-steel boxyan design claimed to have been pioneered by the company. Although primarily designed to meet export demand and designated the "Export" Body the model is also available on the home market.
The Pye vehicle is virtually frameless because the body strength is obtained by folding the panel edges to form a pillar section. This method reduces production costs by its simplicity, has a very high strength-to-weight ratio, and gives an exceptionally clean and tidy internal finish. The floor is of waterproof plywood but other types of flooring can be fitted to suit individual operators. Weight of the 445 cu. ft. standard body is only ll cwt.; it can be supplied to suit all makes of chassis/ cab although to date it has been restricted to a maximum of 18 ft. and 5-ton capacity so as to avoid production bottlenecks.
