A SUGGESTION that the 1966 conference of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers should be a truly national one was made by the president, Mr. E. B. H. Elsbury. at the 1965 conference dinner last week-end. In any event, the conference will be at the Grand Hotel, Birmingham, May 20-22. The matter of corporate examinations was raised at the conference by Mr. Elsbury and he said the council was
determined and unanimous" about the early introduction of such a scheme. The chairman of the technical education committee, Mr. Peters, agreed that an entirely IRTE scheme must be a long-term aim, but the administrative problems and the cost at present appeared to exclude anything other than co-operation with another institute. (It is understood that there have already been discussions with the Institute of the Motor Industry.)
