Ml A Dover-based haulier is to fit computers and satellite communication equipment to its three new Scania tractive units.
Refrigerated specialist Dockspeed says the technology will enable its drivers to keep in touch with base at all times while on the Continent — a difficult task in eastern Europe.
The equipment is being supplied by Logiq Leyland Daf OnBoard Systems. An associate company of Dockspeed, Inter City Trucks of Hythe, Kent, is already using satellite links, using Inmarsat-C technology.
Dockspeed will route all its communications through Inter City's computer, and it hopes to link the on-board computer to the refrigeration unit on each vehicle to allow it to monitor load temperature at all times.
The equipment is being fitted to new trucks to allow the company to calculate their running costs throughout their lives.
