AS predicted exclusively in CM (February 4) a Roman 6 x 4 should soon be available in the UK market.
Three such trucks — designated R19 215DF — are currently undergoing proving trials in this country. Two are being tested at the full gross weight while the third is being investigated by the service team.
The new Roman will be available in haulage and tipper forms plated at 26 tonnes (25.6 tons) gvw.
Built under licence from MAN, the Roman features a 10.34 litre (631cuin) engine which produces 161kW (21613hp) DIN at 2,200rpm with a maximum torque of 745Nm (549Ibft) at 1,400rpm.
The rear bogie has a plated capacity of 20 tonnes (19.7 tons).
Two wheelbases are featured with the long version at 5.19m (17ft 1 lin) being for haulage use while the tipper model has a wheelbase of 4.5m (14ft Ilin).
The MAN engineers estimate that the kerb weight of the 6 x 4 Roman in chassis cab form is around the 7 ton mark.
