Figures from management consultancy Experian show that large companies now take six days longer to pay their bills than six years ago, despite the government introducing late payment legislation. Its report says average payment times for big firms has increased from 72.1 days to 78.5 days since 1998. A number of sub-contractors have collapsed because of delayed or missed payment from contractors.
