North Western Deputy Licensing Authority, Mr. J. R. Lindsay, has granted the Crow Carrying Co., Ltd., Barking, one rigid tanker of 5 tons, and one articulated outfit, totalling 9-1 tons, to be based at Miles Platting, Manchester.
The remainder of the application— two tractors of 71 tons each and two semi-trailers of 7i tons—is refused.
During the hearings (The Commercial Motor, November 9, 1956, and August 16, 1957) it was contended on behalf of the company that because tanker operations were country-wide, the absence of vehicles from their base at London for a number of years and their use in Manchester were justified.
On behalf of the objectors it was submitted that the applicants were seeking to retain traffic obtained irregularly by basing vehicles at Manchester.
