WHEN an A licence was granted last week to St. James Motors (Haulage Contractors), Ltd., Newcastle-on-Tyne, the Northern Licensing Authority was told that it was the first A licence to be issued to a new operator for 25 years.
Mr, T. H. Campbell Wardlaw, for the applicants, said the company would carry second-hand cars from northern auctions to Newcastle salerooms. At present, car dealers had to employ casual drivers to deliver cars from auctions. The hauliers would operate a transporter and trailer capable of carrying four or five cars.
British Railways withdrew their objection when the applicants gave an undertaking not to use their facilities for carrying new cars from factories.
