week rise is without conditions? At our firm we generally get paid the £1 if our earnings are less than £15, but if our gross works out at £14 15s we only get 5s extra.
A Your employer is interpreting the agree
ment correctly. Road Haulage Wages Council publication, R H.88, paragraph 15 covers guaranteed minimum remuneration, which is not to be confused with statutory minimum remuneration. The latter deals with minimum basic payments.
In plain English where a road haulage worker has been employed for not less than 40 hours in any one week, and his total remuneration including overtime, but excluding "dark money", subsistence etc., is less than 300s, then his money shall be made up from the statutory minimum by law.
The guaranteed minimum is the total earned remuneration increased by 20s in the case of a worker over 21, or alternatively by an amount equal to the difference between total remuneration and 300s, whichever is less.
It will be apparent that £1 is the maximum increment possible, and also that the guaranteed minimum remuneration is not a fixed sum.
