II First pictures of a pre-production version of the Leyland gas turbine :ractive unit for operator evaluation were 7eleased this week, and show the type which is going to Esso Petroleum. All :he early machines for the oil companies of which there will be three examples at Earls Court) are identical in basic chassis lesign but differ in respect of pumping and 11th-wheel equipment. Although having the 3ame general specification as the model ;flown at Earls Court two years ago, the atest vehicles differ considerably in details. For example, the front axle is rider, the rear axles are of a different pattern and the front suspension uses aperlite springs with a contra-shackle at the rear end. The rear bogie is lighter han before and a picture shows how it is now sprung on inverted taper-leaf prings. The fuel tank is now circular and the cab has twin exhaust stacks which ilt with it.
