DAF IS to introduce vehicle stability control (VSC) as an option on its CF and XF models from November. VSC is designed to maintain stability and reduce the chance of rollover, jack-knifing and skidding. The safety feature is linked to the electrical braking system, which lets it adjust the braking power on each wheel. It also uses a sensor mounted directly under the steering wheel linked to another in the chassis that measures the transverse velocity.
If the system's threshold is reached and the vehicle is in danger of rolling, it scales back the engine output and activates the braking system. If there is a danger of jack-knifing or skidding VSC lowers the engine output, decelerates the trailer and if necessary brakes an individual front or rear wheel on the trailer.
