• Grants to London Transport to meet its deficits are to go up by Lim in the coming year. Ministry of Transport estimates presented to Parliament last week set aside £12m for this purpose.
The Board is expected to lose nearly £9m on its bus and coach operations in 1968-9. All other operations are expected to show a profit, but the burden of interest charges will put them a further £7,700,000 in the red.
Grants to road passenger transport operators to offset increased fuel taxes are expected to run at £7,400,000, which is only £100,000 up on the year just ended. This seems to have overlooked Mr. Jenkins' additional impost in the Budget, which will have to be recovered.
Grants for new buses under the Transport Bill after it becomes law are expected to total £3m up to next March 31.
