• From September hauliers seeking elusive return loads from within the UK will be able to plug into the Teleroute computerised load-matching system.
Until now, Teleroute has only been available in this country to international operators. There are 300 UK subscribers to the French-based scheme, which lists around 8,000 possible return loads throughout Europe daily.
Users include Eddie Stobart, Knights of Old, Laser Transport International and Allied Pickfords.
Teleroute is sold in the UK by hauliers' co-operative Owner Operators and Barnet-based Route!. Transport firms pay to subscribe to Teleroute and then call up details of loads throughout Europe on their own PCs.
The extension of Teleroute into the UK domestic market is just one of several features to the system launched this week. Subscribers will also be able to carry out a credit check through financial services firm Dun and Bradstreet on the 20,000 firms which can place loads free on the network. Details of P&O ferry services and AA Roadwatch information should also be available as part of the package by the end of the year.
