DAIMLERCHRYSLER has announced the appointment of Andreas Renschler as head of its global Commercial Vehicles division.
Reports had linked Renschler, 46, and currently chief of the Smart brand, with the task of restructuring Mitsubishi, and his appointment, as replacement for Eckhard Cordes has been viewed with some surprise by industry insiders. Interestingly, Renschler has been appointed for just three years.
Chairman Jtirgen Schremp has recently renewedhis ties to DaimlerChrysler through to 2008, although many expecthirnto retire before this, with Cordes now favourite to replace him.
Renschler's experience in developing a parallel brand gained during his tenure at Smart maybe indicative of plans to split the DairnlerChrysler CV business away from the centre, and to hold all three regional truck brands under one umbrella.
