• Following its immediate reaction—"the £4 fee is exorbitant"—to the proposed licensing fees (CM November 14), the FTA has now made known to the MoT its "strongest possible objection".
"We find it impossible," says •the Association, "to appreciate the justification for such a high rate particularly when one recalls frequent earlier assurances that the total cost of the new system would be no greater than that of carrier's licensing.
"We are equally concerned to see that on this occasion you have chosen to withhold the relevant information until the eleventh hour, so virtually eliminating any possibility of genuine consultation and discussion. This, we are pleased to record, is contrary to your normal practice but, nevertheless, the fact that it has resulted in the presentation of an apparent fait accompli is very much regretted,"
