IS THERE a coach operator or a consortium who would like to build an hotel or motel in the beautiful Northumberland national park near the Forestry Commission village of Byrness on A68? A. R. Pellew-Walton, the landowner, who has planning permission, says there is insufficient accommodation for the increasing number of coach tourists on what he describes as "the shortest, fastest and most scenic route into Scotland."
He is willing to sell the freehold or grant a 125-year lease and adds that grants from the EEC, and elsewhere, are available. The county is certainly one of the finest and most traffic-free in England. On the other hand, there are equally beautiful areas of the West Country but half the hotels there seem to be up for sale because business in the past two or three years has been disastrous. Perhaps Scotland has fared better.
