• A recruitment firm has challenged a report claiming that agency drivers are increasing hauliers' risk profiles by up to 400%.
Peter Russell, MD of Pill Recruitment, says the fmdings by risk management company Risk Answers (CM 7-13 Noy) are a sweeping generalisation of the current problem. He believes the problem is inequality: 'Agency drivers generally get the dog of the fleet to drive or the world's worst route."
Russell adds that advice given by Risk Answers to help operators control their risk profiles is a "grandmother and eggs situation" because all employers should be taking these steps anyway. But Risk Answers MD Chris Howell says: "it may be basic advice, but if everyone followed It the industry would be far better represented."
Howell says nobody has taken 'ownership' of the issue; agencies and employers need to work together.
