• UK operators are continuing to lose out on international work, with foreign trucks accounting for a massive 73% of the goods vehicles travelling through our ports.
The Department for Transport's third-quarter report reveals a I% fall in the number of UK trucks travelling to the Continent compared with the previous quarter and 3% since November 2001. Five years ago the split was more or loss 50/50, but foreign operators have since been able to take the lion's share because their operating costs are so much lower.
The Road Haulage Association's director of policy, Karen Dee, stresses that the high love diesel duty in the UK is hindering competit "This is prod.
