Much of the recent interest in tipping stab ity has been generated by the decision of construction materials giant Lafarge Aggregates to introduce 30 new &kill, tippers into its haulage fleet. However, part of the tender process, trailer manui turers bidding for the order had to show products met the IRTE Class A standar( tipper safety at a stability "shoot-out" he on the tilt-table at the Qinetiq test track ii Surrey last year. We believed it was important to have recognised standard or specification to aim for; something that was repeatable different tests." However he adds, "We concluded that 7° was an ideal maximu point, in addition, it is our belief that a tip leaning further than 7° of side tilt is beyo limits of safe practice."
