• A Welsh lorry driver who made a series of six-mile trips delivering stone from a quarry fell foul of the drivers' hours rules despite repeated stops.
Llanelli magistrates heard that Thomas O'Leary, of Station Road, Nantgaredig, had been on the road in his tipper for 8 hours 20 minutes when stopped by traffic examiners. Although his tacho chart showed regular stops for loading and unloading, none of them was long enough to count as a statutory break, said Bill Rees, prosecuting for the DOT.
O'Leary said he had not been fully aware of the regulations but pleaded guilty to driving for 4.5 hours without the required 45minute break. He was fined 100 with £25 costs
