1 Major rental sale for G&A who tricked his boss A TRUCK DRIVER who "cynically and arrogantly" tricked his employers into thinking he had not been banned from driving following a drink-driving offence has been jailed for six months.

John Wheatley of Oldbury, near Dudley, West Midlands, had been employed by Wolverhampton haulage firm EA Aston & Son. He was jailed by Wolverhampton Crown Court after admitting to obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

Prosecutor Benjamin Nicholls told the court that Wheatley failed a breath test in March last year. In May he was banned from driving for a year but failed to tell his employers about the decision and carried on driving for the firm for four months.

"He embarked on a cynical piece of deception," said Nicholls. "He would have been sacked by his firm if they had known he had lost his licence. The defendant, with arrogance, continued to drive for his employers EA Aston & Son."

Wheatley was arrested earlier this year for driving while disqualified.

Mark Heywood, defending, said Wheatley was a -twit" who had buried his head in the sand.

Wheatley was also banned from driving for 12 months. A spokesman for EA Aston 8c. Son declined to comment on whether Wheatley would be re-engaged following his release from prison.
