by Bryan Jarvis • Four new Partek Cargotec refuse-collection vehicles based on Marshall Specialist Vehicles' Cummins-engined low-entry chassis-cabs are about to enter service with Oswestry Borough Council.

They are the first of MSV's new-generation design and form part of a seven-year, £1.1m contract-hire agreement with Wednesbury contract-hire specialists Topmark.

Oswestry's four Marshall units comprise two 21tonne 6x2s with additional mid-lift axles and a brace of 26-tonne 6x4s with double-drive bogies.

The 6x2s have Cummins' 235hp (175kW) B-Series diesels while the heavier vehicles are powered by 260hp (194kW) C-Series units; all four vehicles have Allison automatic transmissions and Rockwell axles.

Intermittent loading compaction bodies with Terberg TCA-DI-IL bin lifts and rear TV monitors are fitted at Norba's Ellesmere plant.

The cab is based on a stainless-steel frame and floor pan with moulded GRP roof and front panel from its bus-building parts portfolio. To handle rough going on landfill sites a three-piece metal bumper and extensive sump guards are added.

Marshall overcomes the problems associated with such a low floor entry by mounting the engine coolant, charge-cooling and gearbox oil radiators behind the cab. The entire chassis-cab is built at Marshall's huge Cambridge plant alongside its Bedford vehicle production line.

Other Marshall variations in the pipeline include parcel van and brewers drays. These will feature the lowentry cab and high-cube and split-body designs.

A number of Marshall/ Partek vehicles will be on display at next week's IWM show in Torbay.

The line-up will include a 17-tonner with Multilift hooklift equipment; two 21tonners with the small lift axle; and a pair of threeaxled units (a 23-tonner with centre-lift axle and a full-blown 26-tonner with double-drive bogie).
