• Elgin tanker driver Norman MacDonald has won £9,759 for unfair dismissal after North of Scotland Water Authority sacked him for being banned from driving. An industrial tribunal accepted MacDonald's claim that the authority could have offered him alternative work that didn't involve driving. MacDonald was banned from driving for a year after refusing to take a police breath test. He told the tribunal that he was involved in arguments over being a Unison shop steward.
The tribunal concluded that macDonald's 14 years of service were free of blemishes and a reasonable employer would have found him other employment.
