• Police in Italy have arrested 38 people in large-scale operations to clamp down on lorry hijackings by organised gangs.
The gangs are believed to be responsible for dozens of robberies in the last half of 2002.
Eurowatch, the truck security service, assisted police by identifying where and how foreign trucks were being attacked as they travelled through Italy. Stolen goods worth several million euros have been recovered.
Mark Schwartz, commercial director of Eurowatch, says: "Italy has been a hotspot for Nackings in the last few years."
