• A decision will be reached this summer on whether an ambitious plan to convert the A8 dual-carriageway between Baillieston and Newhouse in Central Scotland to a 10-lane motorway will go ahead. The project, costing more than £1 00m, was given the green light by the Conservative government but Labour has decided to look again at the plan as part of its strategic roads review. The A8 is the only part of the Edinburgh-Glasgow route which is not to motorway standard.
