THE CONSOLIDATION of Northern Irish haulage continues with the province's biggest player. Montgomery, snapping up Ballymoney-based ConnollyTransport.
Reefer specialist Connolly will become a part of the Montgomery Refrigerated division in the Montgomery group.
Only last week Montgomery took over Road & Sea Express's Buckinghamshire depot after the Cheshire-based company was issued with a winding-up petition ( CM 28 April).
Connolly has 26 tractor units, mostly Volvos, and 33 fridges. Montgomery Refrigeration's fleet has 47 tractors and 90 fridges.
Montgomery MD Paul Jackson describes the deal as a "glove fit" for the company: "We're keeping the yard, the drivers, the cold store, all equipment — everything." Former Connolly MD Clifford Connolly is staying on to manage the new section as a stand-alone operation in Montgomery livery.
Connolly had 39 employees, down from 57 two years ago. Accounts record profits of £328,000 for 2002-3.
