I’VE BEEN A subscriber to CM since 1963 and was a haulier for many years. I now restore ERFs and I like to keep up to date with what’s going on in the industry (and glad I’m not part of it).
The recent articles on the oldies were interesting, more please. I refer to the article on Astran (CM 17 March – back issues are still available, Ed) – they were real pioneers.
Ashley Coghill says Astran founder Michael Woodman “want
ed to run a British vehicle in his leet”. While throwing out some old CMs I came across this article (pictured): in 1965, Bob Paul was on his third trip to Afghanistan with a Guy Warrior artic – made in Wolverhampton. He thanked back-up from York Trailers and Michelin, but doesn’t mention Guy Motors or the truck’s engine maker – was it an AEC or a Gardner power unit? Phil Comber
