The "temporary" lights, which cover a 30m stretch of the 86281 near Mickleton, Teesdale, were set up after the road subsided. But repair work, which would cost more than 2150,000, has yet to be carried out. A Durham County Council spokesman explains: "There was no money this financial year to do the work, but it will be considered next year. The council had to prioritise, spending money on education and social services." He adds. "All things have to be taken into account—and with the traffic lights the road can be kept open."
