• A £7.1m. bid by Charrington Gardner and Locket for Dundee Perth and London Securities is likely to succeed. DPL, part of the Slater Walker Group, has 250 vehicles and 300,000 sq ft of warehousing. COL has a fleet of over 1000 vehicles.
The directors of DPL who have themselves been actively engaged seeking acquisitions in road haulage during the past two years are to recommend the terms of the take-over to the shareholders. When the newsbroke on the Stock Exchange on Monday DPL's share price rose by seven pence to 102p, its highest this year. Chaffington's dropped by four pence to 53p which is by contrast its lowest level this year.
Exports up 27 pc
• Britain's positive balance in motor exports over imports reached a record of £584m in the eight months to the end of August — nine per cent better than for the same period in 1972.
According to the SMMT exports of commercial vehicles rose by 27 per cent to £143m while imports reached £34m. Exports of components, parts and accessories increased from £359m to £463m.
