licensing authority plans to crack down on operators who persistently break the law, The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority for Northern Ireland says repeat offenders could be stripped of their 0-licences.
It has begun detaiied monitoring of 258 operators with poor records -61 of the worst offenders have been sent "final warning" letters.
The 61 operators will be required to renew their licences annually. The letters warn that any further prosecutions "may result in the Department refusing to renew the operator's licence.
And for the first time, the names of Northern Irish hauliers whose licences are suspended or revoked will be published on the authority's webs ite.
All Northern Irish operators have been warned of the tougher approach.
