THE COMMERCIAL MOTOR Great North Run team romped home last weekend to raise almost £2,000 for the British Lung Foundation.
Th.e 21km race took runners from Newcastle upon Tyne to South Shields, and the hilly terrain didn't deter some 50,000 runners from making this the largest halfmarathon in the country.
Owner-driver Richard Hewctson and his two daughters reckon They have raised over £5()0 for the charity. "The girls beat me. which was embarrassing,"Hewetson says, "but they have youth on their side!
"Training was hard though, particularly in the last three weeks. Driving a wagon doesn't leave you much chance to exercise."
Also triumphant were CM staff members Vibeke and James Kelway. "The 10-mile mark was really hard," says Vibeke."1 hadn't run as far as this before, so after 10 miles it took pure will power."
CM's congratulations to all its runners on an outstanding achievement.
