• A haulier used a Scania antic with defective brakes and no test certificate because he was fed up with waiting for a new truck to be delivered.
John Richards, who runs Richards Haulage at Upper Varchoel, Powys was fined £300 and ordered to pay £75 costs by Tamworth magistrates, Staffordshire after he pleaded guilty to both charges.
David Doolan, prosecuting for the Vehicle Inspectorate, said the offences came to light when Richards' vehicle was stopped by the VI on the AS at Wail, Staffordshire on 25 October last year. The test certificate had expired on 30 September.
Richards told the magistrates that he had ordered a replacement truck last July and paid a large deposit. He said he had used the Scania because he was "fed-up" waiting for the new vehicle, which was not delivered until the end of January this year.
