CHESHIRE HAULIER RF Fielding is making sweeping changes to its management structure after abuses of drivers hours and tacho rules were exposed at a public inquiry.
Founder Reuben Fielding has resigned as MD: responsibility for legal compliance and commercial operations is now being split between two other directors.
In February North-Western TC Beverley Bell attacked Fielding for claiming ignorance of the legal abuses, suggesting he was trying to portray himself as a naive country bumpkin (CM 16 February). The TC was due to give her verdict on Wednesday (5 April).
Fielding. who will be company chairman, says that all businesses need to restructure at some time but confirms the inquiry hastened the process for RF Fielding.
It is mainly involved in ambient food consolidation and distribution.
A new MD will be appointed in the next few months. Dave Lowe, the company's new commercial director, has praised Fielding for stepping aside after having run the business for 20 years. "Ifs a big decision to make," he says Mark Bresnahan. previously a contracts manager, is operations di rector with responsibility for health and safety as well as compliance.
Lowe reports that negotiations to sell RF Fielding to Innovate Logistics have ended.
But Innovate MD Pete Osborne says it is something which is "still in the background."
