Travelling back from Patras after a long haul I was fortunate enough to read several copies of Commercial Motor—no doubt left behind by some kind trucker.
I read about the Currie Group acting on driver complaints over wages and conditions. It caught my eye simply because I used to see some of Currie's drivers in Italy.
There was mention of a letter from a number of unnamed drivers, which intrigued me. I have now managed to secure a copy of the original letter sent to Mr Currie, and which no doubt CM has seen. And I must say I am ashamed to think that I knowingly spoke to these drivers who were so gutless that they sent such a defamatory piece of trash and left it anonymous so that others may be held responsible— even their own workmates.
Their views, right or wrong, would never be taken seriously, precisely because of the anonymity of the letter. Power to drivers, power to your letters, but no more hiding behind anonymity.
